One year later: How have the Big Brother Naija 2017 contestants fared so far?

In a few days, another edition of popular reality show Big Brother Naija will begin. In this article, NAIJ.com chronicles how the 2017 contestants of the show have fared so far.

Who has surprised you? Who has earned your admiration? Who has been the most controversial? Who has been the most disappointing? Who has become a bonafide star? These are some of the pertinent questions this article asks.

Since a large number of Nigerians voted him as the winner of the show, the budding musician has disappointed the same people who voted for him. His career choice is the main reason for this. He has released more than five songs with accompanying videos; still he hasn’t won fans over. Well, he has a song with popular musician Olamide in the works perhaps that will change his fortunes.

Perhaps the most successful of all the housemates, Bisola has soared since the show ended. Already a known name before BBNaija, her coming second has literally enlarged her coast. So far, she has starred in a number of movies and even released her first single to the delight of many.

In the week he spent in the house, Miyonse developed a persona many did not like following his dalliances with TBoss. But after his exit, he has worked on the low to create a career for himself as a TV chef. So far, it is working for him.

By far the most controversial housemate, TBoss hasn’t stopped raising eyebrows. She has taken to a career as a ‘model’ appearing in countless photo shoots and she even starred in a music video. She also has an endorsement deal to her credit.

Another housemate who decided to toe the music path, Marvis has stayed clear of controversy after her time on the show. She also launched a clothing line.

The light skinned actress had already been termed fake by the majority of Nigerians and all she has done since the show ended buttresses that point. She has already been involved in a scandal regarding her marriage, her boyfriends and an alleged pregnancy.

Following the wahala that arose after it was revealed that he was a married man with two kids, TTT has maintained a low profile choosing instead to celebrate the same family he slyly denied while on the show.

Bally seems to be facing his career as a DJ full on. From all indications, he doesn’t have time for anything else.

Debbie Rise

The only housemate who seemed to be always working, Debbie took every advantage of her new found fame. She hit the road hard performing in all the geo political zones of the country and she recently just released her EP.

Many suggested that Uriel continue her famous diary sessions and she listened. She created a vlog that shows bits of her life that a lot of people knew little about. She also got an endorsement with a company based on her love for cooking.

The ‘fineboy’ of the house, Bassey also maintained a low profile after the show came to an end. He starred in several movies and he also released a song with his ‘sweetheart’ Debbie Rise.

Another housemate whose chosen career after the show largely disappointed many, Soma still insists on doing music. He also doubles as an actor appearing on a Funke Akindele produced TV series.

Apart from a music video and cameo appearances in other songs, Cocoice has remained relatively quiet.

His disqualification did not stop him from moving on with his life. After apologising to TBoss for the unfortunate event, Kemen dove head on into his chosen profession as a fitness trainer.

Fake housemate number one also delved into music and apart from his single featuring Simi and Adekunle Gold, little has been heard from him.

Fake housemate number two went back to a budding career in Nollywood starring in a number of released and yet to be released movies.

It is no longer news that Nigerian celebrities do not care either they are married before having children. Majority have taken pride in becoming single moms and dads.

Such is the case of popular Nigerian music star turned politician, Abolore 9ice. It was earlier reported that the singer was allegedly expecting his fifth baby from his fourth baby mama, Olori Oluwayemisi, who disclosed to be a Lagos-based skin care expert.

The singer said: “The reports are not true that I am expecting my fifth child from another woman. I have no idea where the report came from, but the truth is that in Nigeria, especially in Yorubaland, there is an adage that says that you don’t count a man’s children for him. To have more children is not a crime, but the sad thing is that people would believe what they want to believe. I am currently in the studio working on new songs and I am also promoting my new song ‘Ebami’ but no one would write about that. All they know is to peddle false news about me.

9ice’s 2008 marriage to Toni Payne produced a son, Zion while the singer also welcomed twin daughters from a brief romance with Abuja based lady, Vicky Godis and his fourth child, Michelle came from Olasunkanmi Ajala back in 2015.

UberTales: Beard Gang But You Speak English Like Jenifa

Unlike my friend, Isabella, I’ve never been crazy about bearded guys. I fall for the nerds and well, with or without a beard, all he needs to pass the test is to answer the ‘how do you do’ question correctly.

We were talking about the qualities we wanted in a man while we waited for our Uber to arrive. It didn’t take long before a black newly registered Pontiac stopped by. The first thing we looked at was what the driver looked like. Alas! he was signed up to beard gang. He was a fine-looking gentleman with a thick black forest hanging around his pink lips. Bella gave me ‘the look’ and I simply shook my head. I knew for certain she was going to divert her attention to the driver and I’ll not exist for the next few minutes.

When we had settled in the car, I greeted and decided to take the first cue. “How do you do, sir? ” I asked and Bella rolled her eyes, knowing very well what I was driving at. “I’m fine, Princess”, he replied and without saying one more word, I reached out for my phone. She could have his attention for all I care. He just failed my litmus test.

UberTales: Beard Gang But You Speak English Like Jenifa

Good at what she does, Bella kept flirting with the driver; complimenting his beard, trying to ditch the professional air and get all clingy with him. I was about to plug in my headphones when I heard him say, “half a loaf is better than one”.

My heart skipped a beat in alarm. Isabella looked at my face and the strength with which I tried to prevent myself from laughing failed so I pretended to be watching a funny video on my phone so I could laugh my heart out. Bella rolled her eyes and tried to continue the conversation with her Prince Charming. “…you were saying half a loaf is better than none, that’s right. When we learn to accept things from the scratch, we won’t lose it all trying to get it perfectly”

“Don’t try to cover for him, idiot!’ I whispered to her but she simply ignored. For crying out loud, dude said half a loaf is better than one so where from all these justifications?

A few minutes later, we arrived at our destination and I watched closely as the mobile application the fare. “Your friend has not saying anything at all”, the fine beard gang driver said to Isabella while looking at me with a warm smile across his face. My breath ceased for a moment and I didn’t know what to do when our eyes met. My jaw dropped and I guess the shock in my eyes alone made him wonder if he had said something wrong. “I’m sorry. Have I say something bad?” he added and all I wanted at the moment was to hop out of the car.

“No, no, no you didn’t saying something wrong. I just thinking you should saying the price and we should paying them to you” I chipped in and handed him 20 cedis as displayed on his phone before he opened his mouth to say one more word. Isabella was already out of the car, clutching her purse close to her mouth. I joined her as we waited for the car to leave so we could laugh our souls out. The driver gave us a wink. As if it was some choreography being directed, we both shut our eyes tightly until he was gone.

As we died with laughter, I didn’t know if it was Isabella I was laughing at or the cute bearded driver who was taught English by Funke Akindele(Jenifa).

Uber is certainly bae!
